Courage to Act.We are looking for an innovative educator and program assessment professional to join the Institute for Social Concerns at the University of Notre Dame in our mission to grow justice, rooted in the common good. This includes, but is not limited to, the Appalachia program, RISE Hometown, and summer fellowship experiences, as well as other programs as they emerge over the coming years. A core responsibility will be assessing student participation and development within the program. The work will require liaising with various people across campus and community to obtain data, and building relationships both on campus and in the community. The program director must remain current with the interdisciplinary literature and best practices around the cultivation of moral imagination, practical wisdom, and courage to act, and - critically - be able to craft assessments to measure the extent to which they are achieved across programs and to further the development of programming to further these ends. The Program Director is also expected to stay current on the literature regarding the theory and practice of justice, the latest innovations in engaged learning pedagogies, and national best practices in student formation. This person will be the Institute authority and expert in program assessment. This is a full-time, 12 month position.About the Institute. The Institute for Social Concerns is an interdisciplinary institute responding to the complex demands of justice through a combination of justice education and research for the common good. We bring people together to think carefully about the world's most pressing social concerns in order to develop creative and effective approaches to addressing them. For more than forty years, the Institute for Social Concerns has been animated by the conviction that a just world is a beautiful world.

  • Design, based on extensive research and analysis, and deliver custom assessments for measuring key learning outcomes for programs. Gather and interpret results; share findings with Institute leadership.
  • Monitor and review student participation and assess whether they are achieving key objectives of the program. Adjust program and student learning as necessary to enhance delivery of objectives.
  • Develop, deliver, implement, and oversee multiple justice education programs including pre-matriculation programs and immersive experience programs. Responsible for the operations and budgeting aspects of the programs as well as content.
  • Assist with editing and publication work for the Journal of Poverty and Public Policy. This scholarly publication work requires experienced and knowledgeable engagement with the process. Provide assistance with other institute publications as needed.
  • Assist other members of justice education with the implementation of other department programming. Participate in Institute-wide meetings, trainings, committees and events. Provide timely reporting as requested. Support colleagues as needed.Minimum Qualifications
    • Master's degree (with experience) or PhD in a relevant discipline required.
    • Knowledge of community-based learning pedagogy and poverty studies.
    • Quantitative analysis skills and ability to apply disciplinary expertise to program design.
    • 3 to 5 years experience beyond degree.Skills:
      • Expert-level proficiency in program and student assessment design and analysis.
      • Experience in higher education.
      • Demonstrated experience in coordinating programs and processes with efficiency and attention to details.
      • Administrative experience and/or teaching experience.
      • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
      • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with a wide variety of constituents.
      • Ability, willingness and flexibility to work some weekends.
